OMAHA, Neb. – Wisconsin's Michael Weiss finished fifth in the 400-meter IM finals on the first day the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials with a time of 4:16.31.
“It has been my goal to make the top eight for the past two years,” Weiss said. “Where this summer brings me could take me to a next level of swimming, and I’m really excited about that.”
He advanced to the 400 IM finals with the sixth-fastest qualifying time of 4:19.05 in the preliminary session.
Weiss was competing against two Olympic gold medalists - Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. “Just being in the pool along side of them has been a dream – and I just want to get up there with them.”
Weiss is also competing in three more events at the trials, the 200 free, 200 breast, 400 free and 200 IM.
