The week ahead
The Badger women will head to Iowa City, Iowa for the Big Ten Championships on Wednesday.
Looking back
The Badgers women capped off a busy January by taking two out of three at the Big Ten Quad Duals. The Badgers defeated Illinois and Purdue by scores of 260-93 and 187-177, respectively. The Badgers fell to Minnesota, 238-138.
Beckie Thompson led the women with tremendous individual effort. Thompson turned in first-place finishes in the 50 free (22.40), 100 free (50.35) and 200 free relay (1:32.31) on her way to Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors.
Ashley Wanland was also particularly strong for UW, winning the 100 breast (1:01.18) and 200 breast (2:13.21).
Though the Badger men lost to both Minnesota and Purdue, Michael Weiss and Dan Lester made sure that Wisconsin returned home with something to show for its weekend in Minneapolis.
In addition to posting first-place finishes in the 200 free (1:37.18) and 200 IM (1:48.36), Weiss joined teammates Lester, Wes Langerhausen, and Andrew Neilsen to provide Wisconsin with an elusive top time in the 800 free relay (6:40.55).
Lester cruised to a top time in the 100 fly, collecting a B qualifying time of 48.33 in the process. He narrowly missed another top time in the 200 fly, settling for a second-place 1:48.36.
Drew TeDuits also provided the Badgers with a spark, as the freshman claimed wins in the 100 back (49.70) and 200 back (1:47.56).
On the Horizon
The Wisconsin men will also head to Iowa City for the Big Ten Championships next Wednesday, February 22.
