MADISON, Wis. -- Three of the Big Ten’s top performers this season are continuing to collect honors as University of Wisconsin men’s soccer seniors Tomislav Zadro and Nick Janus, as well as junior AJ Cochran, were all named to the 2013 All-Great Lakes Region squad, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday.
Cochran and Zadro each earned first-team All-Great Lakes Region honors while Janus was named to the third team.
All three Badgers enjoyed memorable seasons, as Zadro was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, while Cochran earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors. Joining both of them as first-team All-Big Ten performers was Janus, who led the team in points (21) and goals (9).
Zadro returned from an ACL injury that required him to miss all of last season, making an immediate impact in 2013. Despite undergoing surgery and missing three games midway through the non-conference schedule, the Toronto, Ontario, native finished the season with 16 points and a Big Ten-best eight assists. His most impressive performance came in the Badgers' home-opening weekend, where he willed UW to a 3-2 comeback win over DePaul in overtime.
Cochran began the season as a preseason All-American and lived up to the billing, anchoring a backline that tallied six shutouts and helped UW post a perfect 10-0-0 record at home. Cochran flashed his offensive brilliance in UW's memorable homecoming win over defending national champion Indiana on Oct. 11, earning a pair of goals, including the game winner to cap off an amazing comeback.
Janus proved to be one of Wisconsin's most consistent offensive options in 2013, as he finished the regular season tallying at least one point in 10 of UW’s last 17 contests.
