Senior tri-captain Nick Van Sicklen (Madison, Wis.) was selected to participate in the 2005 Adidas MLS Player Combine, Jan. 8-11 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Cal. There will be a total of 66 college seniors in attendance at this years combine, with general managers and members from all 12 MLS teams. Players are vying for an opportunity to be selected for the 2005 MLS SuperDraft, taking place in Baltimore, Md., On Jan. 14th.
Van Sicklen led the Big Ten with 12 goals and seven assisst for 31 points this season. He is a three time All-Big Ten player, and was a four year starter for the Badgers. This season he was named College Soccer News National Player of the Week after his hat-trick performance against No. 9 Penn State. He currently ranks fourth on Wisconsins all time record book with 76 career points.
The Combine will feature three days of doubleheaders, in which the players will be managed by collegiate coaches from across the nation. The names of the coaches will be released on a later date. Van Sicklen is one of eight players that were selected from the Big Ten this year. Michigan and Indiana are both sending two players, with Michigan forwards Mychal Turpin and Knox Cameron participating, and Indiana goalie Jay Nolly and midfielder Danny ORourke. Ohio States Justin Cook, Penn States Chad Severs and Michigan States John Minagowa-Webster were also selected.
