Dix earns spot on all-championship team



Wisconsin senior midfielder athid=5598&deptid=122"> --> Kenny Dix was named to the Big Ten Mens Soccer All-Championship team Sunday after helping the Badgers battle to a scoreless tie in their quarterfinal-round matchup with Michigan on Thursday.

Dix, a native of Atlanta, Ga., was recognized following a career season in 2008. He finished the regular campaign with career-high totals in goals, assists and shots.

He entered the season with one career goal but has scored twice in 2008, while also doling out three assists after posting just one in his previous three seasons. Dix has 20 shots on the season, one in which he has made a career-high 18 starts and matched a career high by playing in 19 games.

Michigan State, which claimed its second Big Ten tournament title with a 1-0 win over Indiana on Sunday, swept the top awards. Spartans senior forward Doug DeMartin earned Offensive Player of the Championship honors, while MSU goalkeeper Avery Steinlage was named the Defensive Player of the Championship.

The Badgers (9-7-3) now await word on a possible NCAA tournament berth, with the 48-team field to be announced between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Monday on ESPNews.
