Seeded fifth in the 2002 Big Ten Championship tournament, the Wisconsin men's soccer team will play No. 4 seed Penn State Thursday at 12:30 p.m. CT on the Nittany Lion's Jeffrey Field.
The Badgers will be looking for a repeat of their earlier win over the Nittany Lions when they take the field in State College. Wisconsin earned its first Big Ten win of the season after defeating No. 20 Penn State 2-1 at the McClimon Soccer Complex Sunday, Oct. 6.
Badger sophomores Nick Van Sicklen and David Martinez posted a goal a piece against the Nittany Lions to improve Wisconsin's record to 7-4-0 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten for that week.
Senior team co-captain Valentine Anozie tallied an assist on both of the goals after creating both scoring opportunities for the Badgers. He was later awarded the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Week honor for his performance against Penn State. In net, UW keeper Eric Hanson recorded five saves to ensure the Wisconsin win.
Should the Badgers earn the repeat win, UW will face nationally-ranked and No. 1 seed Indiana Friday at 4 p.m CT in the first semifinal game.
