The 2007 Big Ten Mens Soccer Tournament, hosted by Michigan State University, kicks off this Thursday, Nov. 8 with opening rounds. The Wisconsin mens soccer team holds the sixth seed and will face the No. 3 seed Northwestern at 8 a.m. Central time at Old College Field in East Lansing, Mich.
The Badgers enter the tournament with a 0-3-3 Big Ten record, though the team recently held the No. 1 seed Indiana Hoosiers to a 0-0 tie last Sunday, who Northwestern fell to 1-0 earlier in the season. UW looks to carry the momentum from the last game into the tournament play.
Northwestern holds a 3-2-1 Big Ten record entering the tournament. The Wildcats finished off their Big Ten regular season with a 2-0 win over Michigan State on Oct. 28, and most recently tied UW-Green Bay 1-1 in double overtime on Nov. 3.
When the Badgers and Wildcats met earlier this season, Wisconsin dropped a 3-0 loss to Northwestern.
Other tournament games on Thursday include the No. 2 seed Ohio State against the seventh-seeded Michigan at 10:30 a.m. Central time, and No. 4 seed Penn State versus the No. 5 seed Michigan State at 1 p.m. Central time. No. 1 Indiana received a first-round bye.
The winners of the opening rounds will compete in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 9. Upon winning Thursday, Wisconsin would face the Ohio State/Michigan winner at 10 a.m. Central time. Indiana will take on the Penn State/ Michigan State winner at 12:30 p.m. Central time on Friday as well.
The Big Ten Tournament Championship game will be held on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. Central time.
