Soccer Badgers Earn Academic All-District Honors



The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) named two Wisconsin soccer players to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V teams Thursday. UW mens soccer forward Jed Hohlbein and womens soccer defender Jessica Ring will now be placed on the ballots for the 2003 CoSIDA Academic All-America teams to be announced Tuesday, Nov. 25.

Hohlbein, a UW junior studying geography, is in his first year with Wisconsin after transferring from Southwest Missouri State. The Middleton, Wis., native leads the Badgers in scoring with nine goals and four assists for 22 points. He has played and started 18 games this season.

Ring hails from Rockford, Ill., and is a junior double-majoring in criminal justice and legal studies. She has played in 12 games for the Badgers this season and has dished out two assists.

The Wisconsin womens soccer team opens post-season play Thursday, Nov. 6, against Penn State in round one of the 2003 Womens Big Ten Conference Soccer Tournament. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the McClimon Soccer Complex.

The mens soccer team concludes its regular season Saturday, Nov. 8, against Valparaiso at Reddan Park in Verona, Wis. The Badgers and Crusaders kick off at noon.
