Nine saves and a double-overtime shutout of Northwestern earned Wisconsin junior goaltender Eric Hanson conference recognition as he was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday. Hanson shares this weeks honor with Indiana goalkeeper Jay Nolly.
Hanson is currently fourth in the conference with 71 saves and five shutouts. The Madison, Wis. native is also etching his name in the Wisconsin record books, ranking seventh among all Badger goalkeepers in career shutouts (10) and career saves (148).
This is Hansons third career Big Ten honor. He was named Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season on Oct. 6 for his two shutouts and 11 saves against UW-Milwaukee and Penn State. Hanson also shared the honor last season with Indianas John Swann for the week of Sept. 2.
Hanson and the Badgers conclude their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 8, against Valparaiso at Reddan Park in Verona, Wis. Kickoff is set for noon.
