Junior Victor Diaz (Madrid, Spain), a starting forward for the Wisconsin mens soccer team, was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V At-Large teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Nov. 1.
Nomination for the award requires that a student-athlete be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, and has reached a sophomore standing both academically and athletically.
Diaz currently leads his team in assists (eight), points (16), and shots (45) this season while holding a 3.60 in Finance. Furthermore, he ranks in the top five among all Big Ten players in assists, points, and shots, and among the top 10 in the conference in goals.
Recently, Diaz has also been nominated for the 2007 All Big-Ten Team.
This is the second year that Diaz has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V At-Large teams by CoSIDA. Last year, Diaz also was named forward on the All-District V At-Large teams with a 3.74 in Management and Human Resources, as well as receiving a second-team All-Big Ten selection, earning the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4, and being named an Academic All-Region and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Since Diaz earned a spot on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V At-Large first team, he will be eligible to earn Academic All-America status.
CoSIDA selects Academic All-District and All-America teams for 10 sports as well as a mens and womens at-large team for all other sports.
