MADISON, Wis. -- Chase Rau's spectacular performance against Northwestern on Sunday afternoon has earned him Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
The freshman was fantastic in the net for the Badgers on Sunday, shutting out the defending Big Ten champion Wildcats, while grabbing five saves. Sunday's effort extended UW's shutout streak to 231 minutes, and Rau has been in the net for 141 of those minutes.
The Badgers have had a player win Big Ten Player of the Week honors twice this season, and both times it's been Rau. No freshman in the past three seasons has won multiple player of the week awards for Wisconsin.
Rau will look to build off his sparkling showing when the Badgers take on Ohio State on Sunday, Nov. 4, in Columbus, Ohio, in UW's final regular-season match.
