University of Wisconsin senior athid=5211&deptid=122"> --> Victor Diaz has been named the Big Ten Conference Mens Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Diaz earned the honor following a week that saw him explode for six total points, including a goal and an assist in the Badgers 2-0 win over UW-Green Bay on Oct. 20 and a career-high three assists as he celebrated Senior Day in Sundays 4-1 win over Penn State.
The senior, a native of Madrid, Spain, was out of the UW lineup for nearly three weeks before returning to action against UW-Green Bay, but came back in a big way for the Badgers. Diaz had his hand in five of the UWs six goals on the week.
His performance moved him into ninth on the UWs all-time assists list with 18 for his career, and he also took over the 10th spot on the schools career game-winning goals list with six. Diaz also ranks fourth in career shots and needs just one more point to move into a tie for 10th in that category, as well.
The Big Ten weekly honor is the second of Diazs career. He also earned offensive player of the week distinction for the week of Sept. 4, 2006.
The award also is the second for a UW player this season, as junior athid=5964&deptid=122"> --> Pablo Delgado was named the leagues top offensive player for the week of Sept. 8.
The Badgers enter the stretch run of the regular season this week, traveling to DeKalb, Ill., to take on Northern Illinois in a non-conference game at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
