Senior athid=5211&deptid=122"> --> Victor Diaz has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after having his hand in five of the Badgers' six goals last week. Diaz tallied a goal and an assist in the UW's 2-0 win over UW-Green Bay and had three assists in Sunday's 4-1 win over Penn State. It is the second Big Ten weekly award of Diaz's career.

The Badgers seek their first win in DeKalb since 1995, a stretch that has seen the Badgers go 0-5-0 against Northern Illinois on the Huskies home field.

Last Mondays win over UW-Green Bay gave the Badgers their seventh win of the season, eclipsing their win total from all of 2007, when the UW posted a 6-7-6 overall mark. The Badgers added their eighth victory in Sundays 4-1 win over Penn State.

All six of the Badgers losses this season have come by one-goal margins, while, before Sundays win over the Nittany Lions, their five Big Ten Conference matches had been decided by a combined four goals.

The Badgers matched their season-best offensive output against the Nittany Lions, racking up four goals in a single period for the second time this season. They also tallied four in the first half of a 4-0 win over UW-Milwaukee on Oct. 8.

Sundays win over the Nittany Lions was the Badgers first this season when allowing an opponent to score first (1-5-1) and also marked their first come-from-behind win when trailing at halftime. The Badgers have trailed at the half in just three of their 16 games and are now 1-2-0 when their opponent leads at intermission.

Junior athid=5596&deptid=122"> --> Scott Lorenz s eight goals this season give him the most by a UW player since Nick Van Sicklen tallied 12 and Jed Hohlbein had nine for the Badgers in 2004.

Diazs three assists in Sundays win gave him 18 for his career and moved him into ninth place on the Badgers all-time assists list. He also ranks fourth all-time at the UW in shots, is tied for 10th in game-winning goals and needs just one more point to move into a tie for 10th in that category, as well. Diaz scored six of his eight points for the season (1 goal, 4 assists) last weeks two games.

Senior Victor Diaz doled out a career-high three assists as the Badgers scored four unanswered goals in the second period to rally past Penn State, 4-1, and earn their first Big Ten win since downing the Nittany Lions on Oct. 15, 2006.

Four different players scored for the Badgers, including junior Scott Lorenz, who tallied his team-leading eighth goal of the season. athid=6006&deptid=122"> --> Taylor Waspi , athid=6004&deptid=122"> --> Brandon Miller (who has scored in three straight games) and athid=5599&deptid=122"> --> Eric Conklin also found the back of the net for the UW.

The Huskies enter Wednesdays game coming off a 1-0 win over Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green and are 2-2-2 in their last six contests. NIU is 5-1-3 at home this season.

So far this season, the Huskies have outscored their opponents by a 24-16 margin.

Brad Horton leads the Huskies with six goals on the season, although five other players have tallied multiple goals on the year. Goalkeeper Joe Zimka, who registered an assist in Saturdays win over Bowling Green, has allowed 16 goals in 15 games this season.

The Badgers snapped a three-game losing streak to the Huskies with a 4-0 win last year in Madison, but they are 5-6 all-time against the Huskies in DeKalb.

The UW has dropped five straight games to the Huskies in DeKalb (including four shutouts) and seeks its first victory on NIUs home turf since a 3-1 win in 1995.
The Badgers won 13 of the teams first 15 meetings, but NIU has claimed eight of the last 10 games in the series, dating back to 1997.

There has never been a tie in the series, although four games have gone to overtime, with the last coming in the Badgers last trip to DeKalb, a 1-0 loss in 2006.

UW head coach Jeff Rohrman is 2-3-0 against the Huskies, including an 0-2 mark in DeKalb. while NIU coach Steve Simmons owns a 3-2-0 mark against the Badgers.
