The University of Wisconsin mens soccer team gave up an own goal in the 76th minute which proved to be the game winner as Northern Illinois claimed a 3-2 decision today. UW senior Dominic DaPra recorded a goal and an assist in the contest.
The Huskies took advantage early as forward Bernhard Hagevik scored with a header off a corner kick by Matt Stukenberg at the 9:07 mark. DaPra evened the score at 1-1 less than three minutes later, notching his 13th goal of the season from seven yards out off a long pass by freshman midfielder Nicolas Aguilar.
NIU regained the lead in the 34th minute with Hagevick again putting the ball in the back of the Badger net from about eight yards out. NIU took a 3-1 advantage at the 75:40 mark as Wisconsin allowed the ball to cross its own goal line.
Senior forward Aaron Lauber, assisted by DaPra and freshman John McGrady, narrowed the gap to 3-2 with a header in the 86th minute, but time ran out on the Badgers chance for a comeback.
Wisconsin falls to 7-7-1 overall while the Huskies improve to 4-10-0 with their fifth consecutive victory over the UW. The Badgers return home to host Michigan State for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.
