Men's Soccer Hosts Michigan State, Honors Seniors on Sunday

For mens soccer seniors Erol Goknur and Watson Vaughan Prather, Sunday is the final time they will play at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Badger uniforms. Wisconsin takes on the Michigan State Spartans at noon for the final game in Madison this season.

Prior to Sundays kickoff Wisconsin will honor Goknur and Prather for their dedication to the soccer program. Both are two of this years tri-captains, and are three-year letter winners.

The Badgers (9-8-0, 1-3-0 Big Ten) will rely on momentum from Wednesdays 2-1 victory over DePaul to come out strong against the Spartans. Junior forward Jed Hohlbein scored both Wisconsin goals in Wednesdays match and leads the team with nine goals and four assists for 22 points.

Michigan State (9-3-2, 2-1-2 Big Ten) comes to Madison having recently beaten in-state opponent Western Michigan in a late 1-0 decision. The Spartans are riding a two-game winning streak which also includes a win over Big Ten foe Penn State. Forwards Thomas Trevelloni and reigning Big Ten offensive player of the week Ryan McMahen will lead the offense for MSU.

Sunday, the Badgers hope to extend their two-game home winning streak and make a strong finish in Big Ten play. Wisconsin has beaten Michigan State in six out of their past seven meetings, including the last two.

Following Sundays match, the Badgers head to Evanston, Ill. Sunday to face Northwestern at 1 p.m. next Sunday. Wisconsin concludes its regular season on Sat. Nov. 8 against Valparaiso at Reddan Field in Verona, Wis.
