The Wisconsin mens soccer team experienced its first home loss of the season tonight, falling to Illinois-Chicago, 3-1, at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
Junior midfielder Bruno Rasich gave the Flames (6-3-0) an early lead, firing a direct free kick around a wall of Badger defenders and into the upper left corner of the net at the 5:12 mark of the first half.
Wisconsin (6-2-1) struck back just over a minute later as Nick Van Sicklen played a through ball to Dominic DaPra deep in the opponents box. UIC goalkeeper Jeff Kusiciel tried to make a play on the pass but DaPra gained possession and had an open shot on the Flame goal to even the score at 1-1.
Although each team had several scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of the first half, neither team was able to capitalize. Not until the 65th minute did UIC regain the lead, when Jake Stasko took a short pass and drilled a crossing shot into the far corner of the Badger net. The Flames gained some insurance with just 1:10 remaining in the game as Ross Felton scored his second goal of the season after taking possession of a rebound at close range.
Wisconsin takes to the road this weekend, facing UW-Milwaukee for a 3 p.m. contest on Friday before opening the Big Ten season at Penn State on Sunday.
