The Wisconsin mens soccer team (4-2-0) finishes its six-game road stretch this week traveling to Seattle to take on No. 24 Washington (4-1-0) and Portland (1-2-1) in the Husky Fever Classic. Game times are Central and set for 9 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
After losing to No. 3 New Mexico last Friday 3-2, Wisconsin blanked Butler 1-0 Sunday as it concluded play at the TLC Plumbing and Utilities Invite in Albuquerque, N.M. UWs Erik Ortega (Western Springs, Ill.) scored his first goal of the season, the game-winner in the 84th minute of the game, while goalkeeper Jake Settle (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) recorded his first shutout of the season.
Settle was named to the all-tournament team along with Ortega and Aaron Hohlbein (Middleton, Wis.).
Washington took on Denver and Air Force in Denver this past weekend, winning both games. The Huskies beat Denver 2-0 with goals from Leo Totev and Jo Jo Katz, while goalkeeper Chris Eylander got his second shutout of the season. On Sunday the Huskies beat Air Force 3-2, scoring all three of their goals in the last eight minutes of play for a come-from-behind win.
The Huskies have outscored their opponents 11-6 in five games. Led by senior Chris Eylander, the Husky defense has only allowed six goals on 63 shots so far this season, including two shutouts.
Portland played the University of Portland Alumni team Sunday and won 5-1. Senior Patrick Mooney led the way with two goals in the exhibition game. Two weeks ago at the UNLV adidas Invitational, the Pilots lost to UNLV 2-1 and UC-Santa Barbara 1-0.
The Pilots, who have been outscored by their opponents totaling 4-3 in four games, have not won a road game this year. Alex Elliot leads the team with 14 shots.
The Badgers are 1-1-1 all-time against the Pilots and 0-2 all-time playing the Huskies. Last time the teams faced each other, the Badgers lost to Portland 2-0 and Washington 5-1 in the Husky Classic.
