The University of Wisconsin mens soccer team (3-1-0) travels to the campus of the New Mexico Lobos for the TLC Plumbing and Utilities Invite this weekend. The Badgers will take on No. 3 New Mexico Friday night and Butler on Sunday afternoon.
Last weekend the Badgers finished the UW-Milwaukee Panther Classic 1-1 losing to Fairleigh Dickinson Friday and beating Oakland Sunday after sophomore Dirk Pearson (Barrington, Ill.) and junior Reid Johnson (Mequon, Wis.) both scored goals in the 2-1 win. Wisconsins Kenny Dix and Aaron Hohlbein were named to the all-tournament team. After two weeks of tournaments, Hohlbein has earned all-tournament honors twice.
New Mexico (4-0-0) won the Radisson Hotel Classic hosted by SMU in Dallas, Tex. this past weekend beating South Florida and West Virginia. Ranked No. 3 in the nation, the Lobos beat South Florida 3-2 on Friday afternoon, and then beat West Virginia 2-0 on Sunday to remain undefeated in four games so far this season.
The Lobos are led by senior Jeff Rowland, who has scored five goals in four games, as well as being named conference player of the week on Sept. 5 after the Lobos won the Ohio State Classic. Junior Andrew Boyans earned MVP honors at the Radisson Hotel Classic tournament, followed by being honored as CollegeSoccerNews.com and Soccer Americas teams of the week. The team is undefeated in its last 13 home games (11-0-2) dating back to last season.
Butler (5-0-0) won their home opener after beating Valparaiso 2-1 Friday afternoon. Sunday, the Bulldogs beat Cincinnati 1-0 completing the weekend sweep. Butler played IUPUI on Tuesday winning 1-0.
The Bulldogs are led by junior goalkeeper, Frank Peabody who has allowed only one goal in five games. Junior John DeVae, who has scored two goals this season, was named the Horizon League player of the week on Sept. 4 after the team won the Bradley Tournament.
