From youth players to UW students, there are plenty of reasons for Badger fans of all ages to `Pac the Mac when the University of Wisconsin mens and womens soccer teams host a rare Big Ten Conference doubleheader at the McClimon Complex this Friday.
The Badgers will face Purdue in womens action at 5 p.m. before the UW mens team takes on Indiana at 7:30 p.m., and UW Athletics is offering a number of promotions for fans who Pac the Mac to cheer on the Badgers in a pair of pivotal games.
UW students will have the unique opportunity to cheer on the Badgers from field level, as they are invited to sit on bleachers that will be placed behind each teams goal. The field-level seating is limited to 80 spectators on each end, so students are encouraged to show up early to secure their seats for the doubleheader.
Students will also receive a T-shirt, compliments of Big Ten Network, while supplies last.
We are very excited to bring our students down to the field to help enhance our game-day atmosphere, UW mens soccer head coach staffid=1074"> --> Todd Yeagley said. Having a large student turnout behind the goals will give our players a big boost as we open the Big Ten regular season.
In addition, the Badgers will celebrate Youth Soccer Month through a partnership with U.S. Youth Soccer that includes T-shirts and other free giveaways for kids. The Badgers also are offering free admission to all youth soccer players who wear their team jerseys to the McClimon Complex as part of Youth Team Day.
Madison is such a great soccer community, and we want to bring exciting soccer to the supporters and avid soccer fans of Wisconsin, UW womens soccer head coach staffid=884"> --> Paula Wilkins said.
The main attraction, of course, will be the games themselves. Currently a top-10-ranked team, Purdues squad will offer a challenging start to the Big Ten season for the UW women, while perennial power Indiana comes to Madison as the conference favorite on the mens side.
We are so excited about hosting a doubleheader with the men's soccer team, and we feel it's a great way to start our Big Ten season, Wilkins said. It will be a pair of exciting matches, and I know the fan support will be important for our success.
Theres also an emotional factor in the UW mens teams matchup with Indiana, as the game pits Yeagley and assistant coaches Ernie Yarborough and Chris Munroe against their alma mater.
Having the support of a large crowd, Yeagley says, will go a long way for the Badgers as they renew their rivalry with the Hoosiers to open the Big Ten season.
Playing in front of a packed house at McClimon will make for a fantastic night of soccer as we take on a very good Indiana team, said Yeagley. Our staff and our players are really looking forward to the opportunity to bring some great soccer to our fans as part of the doubleheader.
Tickets for regular-season mens and womens soccer games at the McClimon Complex go on sale one hour before game time at the ticket booth located on the north side of the stadium. General admission tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children and seniors.
