Fresh off winning the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational championship over the weekend, and off to its best start since 2002, the Wisconsin men's soccer team (3-0-1) concludes the tournament portion of its schedule with a pair of games this weekend in the UW-Milwaukee Panther Classic. The Badgers take on Cal State Northridge at 5 p.m. Friday and then face Binghamton at noon Sunday.

THE WEEK AHEAD
The Wisconsin mens soccer team (3-0-1) tackles its final weekend of tournament play with a pair of games in the UW-Milwaukee Panther Invitational. The Badgers, ranked No. 21 by Soccer America, face Cal State Northridge on Friday before taking on Binghamton on Sunday at Valley Fields in Milwaukee.
The UW is unbeaten through four games for the first time since 2002, when it opened 4-0-0 in Jeff Rohrmans first season as coach.
Junior athid=5964&deptid=122"> --> Pablo Delgado , who earned all-tournament and Offensive MVP honors at the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational, has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after tallying a goal and an assist over the weekend.
In addition to their No. 21 ranking by Soccer America, the Badgers also are receiving votes this week in both the NSCAA/adidas Top 25 and the SoccerTimes.com Coaches Poll.The UW also moved up two spots this week to No. 6 in the NSCAA/adidas Great Lakes Regional rankings.
The Badgers ranking is their first in a calendar year, as the UW was last in the polls the week of Sept. 10, 2007. That week, the UW was 20th in the Soccer America rankings and received votes in the NSCAA/adidas and SoccerTimes.com coaches polls.
With their win over No. 20 Santa Clara on Friday, the Badgers are now 4-6-2 against ranked teams over the last three seasons. That includes a 2-2-2 mark against ranked opponents in 2007.
The Badgers already have seen three of their four matches this season go to extra time, and they own a 2-0-1 record in those games. The UW went 0-0-6 in overtime contests last season.
An aggressive attack has helped the Badgers be successful in those extended games, as the UW has out-shot its opponents by an 11-3 margin in overtime periods. Overall, the Badgers own a 66-44 advantage in shots for the season.
Four different players scored goals for the Badgers over the weekend, and each was named to the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitationals all-tournament team. athid=6006&deptid=122"> --> Taylor Waspi notched the game-winner against Santa Clara on Friday, while Delgado, athid=6004&deptid=122"> --> Brandon Miller and athid=5596&deptid=122"> --> Scott Lorenz each contributed to Sundays 3-3 tie with Dayton.
Junior goalkeeper athid=6384&deptid=122"> --> Alex Horwath currently leads the Big Ten Conference in saves, both in terms of raw numbers and per-game average. Horwath has registered 18 saves, an average of 4.5 per contest. He also ranks fourth in the league in goals-against average, at 1.13.

Junior Taylor Waspi scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute off an assist by Pablo Delgado, who placed a free kick perfectly in front of the net to help the Badgers score their first win over a ranked team since knocking off 20th-ranked Gonzaga on Sept. 14 of last season.

The Badgers scored three times, but a pair of scores by Daytons Alex Torda and an own goal forced the UW into its third overtime match of the young season and forced Badgers to settle for a tie. However, the draw did give the Badgers the title in the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational for the first time since 2005.
