The Wisconsin mens soccer team (2-0) will play against #12 Fairleigh Dickinson University and University of Oakland at Engelmann Field in Milwaukee, Wis. The team will play Fairleigh Dickinson Friday at 2 p.m. (previously scheduled for 2:30 p.m.), and Oakland Sunday at noon.
Last weekend, the Badgers beat UNLV and Drake in the Big Toe Soccer Invitational, winning the tournament for the first time since 2002. Sho Fujita was awarded tournament offensive MVP after scoring two goals against Drake as the Badgers won 2-1 in overtime. Captain Arron Hohlbein was awarded tournament defensive MVP for his efforts in holding both teams to one goal apiece as well as scoring two goals in the Badgers win over UNLV.
Fairleigh Dickinson wrapped up their opening weekend against Boston College and Villanova with two wins. Ranked 15th, nationally, BC dropped three goals to FDU, Sept. 1 and scored just one. The Knights shutout Villanova 2-0 on Sept. 4 and scored a goal in each half. Their weekend performance earned them the No. 12 spot in the NSCAA national rankings.
FDU is led by freshman Alejandro Bedoya who recorded two goals and one assist over the weekend as was named to the Soccer America Men's Team of the Week.
The Oakland Grizzles opened its season with a 4-0 loss to Cal State Northridge at the Matadors second annual invitational on Sept. 3. The Grizzlies then lost to San Diego 3-1 on Sept. 5. OU had a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, when San Diego rallied to score 3 goals in the second half to beat the Grizzlies.
Last year the Grizzlies were led by this years co-captain Chris Edwards who tallied 13 goals and two assist, scoring 28 points, 17 more than anyone else on the team.
