UW Secures First Victory of Season

Sophomore Brian Bultman scored the winning goal for the Wisconsin mens soccer team on Sunday afternoon to defeat Western Michigan 1-0 at the McClimon Soccer Complex in UWs final game of the Middleton Sports and Fitness Invitational.

The Badgers (1-1-0 overall) took control early in the first half and dominated offensively, out-shooting the Broncos 12-3. There were many close shots, such as an excellent pass from Pablo Delgado (Madrid, Spain) from the goal line to teammate Scott Lorenz (Barrington, Ill.), whose shot drove into the ground, hit the crossbar, and deflected out of the box, and the game went to halftime scoreless.

After repeatedly coming close in the first half, Wisconsin finally connected and scored in the 77th minute of the game. Lorenz expertly placed the ball from just outside the box on the right side of the field to Bultman (Tucson, Ariz.), who scored his second goal this weekend.

Wisconsins win over Western Michigan (1-1-0) concluded the Middleton Sports and Fitness Invitational earned them a second-place finish. Tulsa took first with a tournament record of 2-0-0.

UW players included in the All-Tournament Team were Bultman, Delgado, and defender Andy Miller (Barrington, Ill.). The full All-Tournament Team for the Middleton Sports and Fitness Invitational can be found below.
