The Wisconsin mens soccer team makes its first appearance in the state of Wisconsin this season Friday through Sunday at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Classic. The Badgers open the tournament against Lipscomb at 4 p.m. on Friday at Engelmann Field, followed by a match between UW-Milwaukee and Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne.

UW (1-1-0) kicked off the 2006 season last weekend at the Golden Hurricane Classic in Tulsa, Okla. The Badgers looked impressive on the opening weekend, taking No. 7 Southern Methodist to overtime in a tight 1-0 loss and beating host-school Tulsa 3-0.

Sophomore midfielder Zack Lambo (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led UW to its 3-0 win with a game-winning goal on a penalty kick and an assist. Following his three-point effort, Lambo was named to the Golden Hurricane Classic All-Tournament Team along with senior defenders Aaron Hohlbein (Middleton, Wis.) and Hamid Afsari (Whitefish Bay, Wis.).

Rohrman was satisfied with what his team showed him in the opening weekend of the season.

I was really pleased with how we played against some good teams. We learned and we showed great resiliency and determination to come back after Fridays loss. We needed our deep roster and it allowed us to dictate games.

Wisconsins next test will be against Lipscomb on Friday. From the Atlantic Sun Conference, Lipscomb (1-1-0) opened the season on Aug. 25 with a comeback 3-2 overtime win against Birmingham-Southern. The Bisons have already played one game this week, a 1-0 overtime loss to Central Arkansas on Aug. 29.

Junior forward Ben Page has led the offensive charge so far this season with two goals, including the overtime winner against Birmingham-Southern.

Play resumes in Milwaukee on Sunday when Wisconsin takes on Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne (0-2-0) at noon and UWM (0-2-0) hosts Lipscomb at 2:30 p.m.

IPFW enters play in Milwaukee with an 0-2 record while being out-scored 10-0. The Mastodons fell to Wright State 4-0 on Aug. 25 and 6-0 to Butler on Aug. 27. Junior forward Chas Perry returns after ranking second on the team with five goals last season.
