With five newcomers joining the Wisconsin mens soccer team this fall, UWBadgers.com took the time to get to know the new Badgers in time for the start of the 2009 season. Today we meet freshman midfielder athid=66285&deptid=122"> --> Derek Pitts of Middleton, Wis.
I grew up a Badger and always wanted to be a part of the school academically and athletically.
What are you expecting out of your first season at UW
I expect to acclimate to the speed of the game, increase my knowledge base on my position and refine my skills even more on the ball
What goals do you have for the upcoming season
Becoming part of a team that flows well together and holding a starting position.
How did you spend your summer
I spent my summer taking a semester of a learning communications class at the UW, I worked, lifted weights, ran, ate, played A LOT of soccer and slept a bunch!
What is the strongest part of your game
The strongest part of my game I would say is knowing when and where to make runs; with this you will be able to get open and people will be able to get the ball to you.
What is your favorite thing about Madison
It has everything!
What are your pregame rituals
I think about the best game Ive ever played.
How do you spend your free time
Playing on my computer, reading some books by James Rollins and keeping in shape
Favorite food: Ribs or French toast
Favorite band/artist: Blink 182 is always good, Jack Johnson, The Crest and Classified
Favorite movie: Ironman
Favorite TV show: The Office
Favorite pro athlete: Ji-sung Park of Manchester United
Best song to listen to before a game: Heart Shaped Box by The Crest
Best sports memory: Scoring the goal to tie a game when we were down 1-0 after I had dislocated my finger. Then we went into PKs and I made mine, and we ended up winning the game.
