McCrudden named to '100 Freshmen to Watch' list



University of Wisconsin freshman athid=66139&deptid=122"> --> Kyle McCrudden has been named to College Soccer News' annual list of the top freshmen in the nation, earning a spot on the Web site's "100 Freshmen to Watch" list for 2009.

McCrudden, a freshman defender from Wilmette, Ill., was named high school player of the year in Illinois last season while leading New Trier High School to its second Class 3A state championship in three seasons. He tallied 22 goals and added nine assists during his senior campaign to lead to the Trevians to a 21-1-1 overall record.

Following the season, McCrudden was named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and also earned second-team All-America honors from ESPN Rise. He finished his prep career with 42 goals and 23 assists in three seasons.

UW sophomore Colin Monasterio was named to College Soccer News' top freshmen list last season and went on to earn a spot on the Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team. Senior Taylor Waspi and junior Ryan Vint also were named to the 100 Freshmen to Watch list in 2006.

The Badgers open the 2009 season by hosting UW-Parkside in an exhibition matchup at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at the McClimon Complex. The regular season begins with a clash against Virginia Tech in the Middleton Sports and Fitness Invitational on Sept. 4.
