College Soccer News Top 40
MADISON, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin men's soccer 2011 incoming class has earned a No. 18 ranking on the College Soccer News Top 40 Recruiting Class list, announced by the website. The Badgers welcome 12 new faces to the field this fall, including seven freshmen and five transfers.
The Badgers' freshman class includes Wisconsin natives David Caban (Kenosha, Wis.), Carl Schneider (Madison, Wis.) and Nick VanDreese (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.), along with Jacob Brindle (Naperville, Ill.), AJ Cochran (St. Louis, Mo.), Eduardo Fernandez (Paso, Texas) and Sam Kessler (Hopkins, Minn.). Juniors Jerry Maddi (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and Tomislav Zadro (Toronto, Ontario), together with sophomores Ryan Buda (Stevens Point, Wis.), Ciro Martinez (Weston, Fla.) and Mike Roettgers (Wauwotosa, Wis.) make up the remainder of this year's incoming class.
According to its website, College Soccer News carefully analyzed the available information regarding the 2011 recruiting classes throughout the country. The criteria utilized applies a lot of weight to the extent to which a recruiting class meets the perceived gaps a team needs to fill and the overall potential of the recruits to increase the competitiveness of the team.
North Carolina received the No. 1 ranking with a 10-member recruiting class, while Indiana's No. 4 ranking was the highest in the Big Ten. Wisconsin's No. 18 ranking was the next highest in the league, with Penn State ranked No. 24, Michigan State No. 31 and Northwestern No. 38 also making the list.
The Badgers kick off the 2011 season on Friday, Aug. 19 with an exhibition game against Denver in Fort Wayne, Ind. Wisconsin hosts Loyola in an exhibition match on Tuesday, Aug. 23 before opening the season at the McClimon Complex on Saturday, Aug. 27 against Western Illinois.
