MADISON, Wis. – Coming off its first NCAA tournament berth since 1995 and owning the nation’s longest active home unbeaten streak (14), the University of Wisconsin men’s soccer team announced its 2014 schedule Tuesday. Unbeaten at home last season (10-0), UW will play host to 11 matches this year, including 10 in prime time, while facing 12 teams that participated in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

“The gauntlet has been thrown down for the 2014 season,” head coach John Trask said. “The schedule will be more demanding than anything we’ve seen in the past, but gives our top players the opportunity to compete against top teams. This year’s schedule includes quality from the first preseason match to finishing up in our last regular-season home game against the always formidable Indiana Hoosiers.”

The Badgers welcome four teams from last year’s NCAA tournament to the McClimon Complex, highlighted by its prime-time rematch with reigning Big Ten tournament champion Indiana on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. UW earned one of the program’s most memorable wins against the Hoosiers in Madison last season, coming back from a 3-1 deficit to stun IU with a 4-3 victory.

The 2014 season kicks off with a friendly against UIC on Aug. 17, followed by a pair of road exhibition matches against NCAA tournament qualifier Creighton on Aug. 22 and reigning national champion Notre Dame on Aug. 25.

Wisconsin welcomes the University of San Francisco to the McClimon Complex for its regular-season home opener on Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a match with Xavier at 7 p.m. Aug. 31. The opening-weekend contests mark two of 10 matches that will be played under the lights of the McClimon Complex this season.

The Badgers will face both of the newest Big Ten members (Maryland and Rutgers) this season, including a Sept. 12 visit from Rutgers to open conference play. UW will travel to face Maryland on Sept. 26.

“The addition of Maryland and Rutgers into Big Ten men’s soccer changes the landscape significantly and will add to the flavor of the conference,” Trask said.

Additional road trips for the Badgers include Georgetown, George Mason, Marquette, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern and Penn State.

“It’s exciting to see the way the schedule came together and I know the guys are really excited to test themselves against some of the elite men’s soccer programs in the country,” Trask said. “Students and local soccer fans will enjoy a host of top-level games this fall and have the opportunity to experience the season along with this team.”
