The Wisconsin mens soccer team returns to the McClimon Soccer Complex this Saturday, April 26, to play the Milwaukee Wave United in an exhibition game at 3 p.m.
This weekends game against the Badgers will be one of the newly formed outdoor professional teams first competitions before the A-League schedule starts in May, in addition to Wisconsins last game of a competitive outdoor spring season.
The Badgers dropped three close matches to 2002 NCAA tournament teams earlier this spring during a challenging East Coast road trip. The Badgers were edged out 1-0 by Virginia Commonwealth early in the trip, followed by a 2-0 loss to 2002 Final Four participant Maryland and a 1-0 loss to American University.
However, Wisconsin ended its spring scoring drought with a decisive 5-1 exhibition win against the Milwaukee Bavarian S.C. team Saturday, April 12. Sophomore Jed Hohlbein, a transfer from Southwest Missouri State, scored three back-to-back goals and an assist in the victory at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
UW teammates Erol Goknur and Pat Cronan each notched a goal a piece against the Bavarians, while UW goalkeeper and team captain Eric Hanson recorded five saves.
The Badgers open the fall 2003 schedule Friday, August 29, at the annual Rocky Rococo Wisconsin Soccer Classic at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Following a 5 p.m. match between Northern Illinois and UW-Milwaukee, Wisconsin will play New Mexico at 7:30 p.m. The Lobos won a school-record 18 games in 2002 and the team made its second consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament last fall.
