Wisconsin closed out its 2002 spring soccer season on Sunday with a 2-1 loss to the Minnesota Thunder, a professional A-League team. The game, which took place at the Thunders spring training site in Mankato, was played in four inches of snow and temperatures around 25 degrees.
The game remained scoreless at the half, but less than 10 minutes into the second period, Wisconsin took a 1-0 lead with sophomore defender John McGrady scoring in the 55th minute. Freshman Nicolas Aguilar fed the ball into the center where McGrady was able to come up with a loose ball, which he fired into the Minnesota net.
The Thunder evened the score with a penalty kick in the 80th minute, which was taken by Nate Winkel. Gerard Lagos scored the game-winning goal for the Thunder in the 88th minute.
