Former Badger All-American Aaron Hohlbein is scheduled to get his first Major League Soccer start Saturday night when his Kansas City Wizards visit D.C. United. Badger fans can watch the two-year captain in action with the Wizards live at 6:30 p.m. CT on Fox Soccer Channel.
A native of Middleton, Wis., Hohlbein is slated to start at central defender next to U.S. national team member Jimmy Conrad. The Wizards also boast another 2006 U.S. World Cup team member in forward Eddie Johnson.
Hohlbein joined Kansas City after being drafted in the first round of the 2007 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft. He then earned a senior roster contract after impressing coaches during Kansas Citys 18-day preseason camp in Bradenton, Fla., in February.
After concluding his UW career last fall, Hohlbein was named a third-team NSCAA All-American as well as a first-team All-Great Lakes selection after leading the Badgers to within one game of the Big Ten regular season title last fall.
Hohlbein and the Wizards will open the 2007 campaign Saturday night at RFK Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. The game is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. with live coverage provided by Fox Soccer Channel.
