Badgers set to host Flames in spring home-opener

Fresh off a victory in its spring season opener last weekend, the Wisconsin men's soccer team continues its exhibition slate Friday by hosting Illinois-Chicago in a match set for 7:30 p.m. at the McClimon Memorial Track/Soccer Complex.

Please note that this is a change from the Badgers' original schedule, which had the contest set for Camp Randall Stadium.

The game is the first of two home dates for the Badgers this spring, as UW also will host in-state rival UW-Milwaukee at the McClimon Complex at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15. UWBadgers.com will offer live stats for both matches.

Admission to both matches is free, and free parking will be available after 4 p.m. each day in Lot 60, which is located immediately north of the McClimon Complex.

The Badgers, who claimed a 1-0 win over Loyola (Ill.) last Saturday, will have their hands full with a UIC squad that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season and finished with a 12-4-6 overall record. The Flames, last season's Horizon League champions, enter Friday's contest following a spirited performance Tuesday against the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer.

UIC fell to the Fire, 3-0, but held the professionals scoreless for the game's first 40 minutes.

The match also will pit first-year UW head coach Todd Yeagley against a former mentor in UIC head coach John Trask, who was an assistant at Indiana during Yeagley's playing days with Hoosiers.

The Badgers, who return seven starters from last year's 9-7-3 squad, have five games remaining on their spring schedule. After hosting UIC and UW-Milwaukee, the Badgers will travel to Western Illinois on April 19 before participating in the annual Wisconsin Cup in Milwaukee on April 25.
