The Badger mens soccer team will host the Milwaukee Rampage on Friday, April 12, for a spring exhibition game at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Kickoff for Wisconsins only home contest of the spring is set for 7 p.m. Friday.
Fans will have the opportunity to see the Badgers in action for the first time under new head coach Jeff Rohrman, who was hired to the UW soccer post on February 4, 2002. Rohrman joined the Badger staff after serving as an assistant at Maryland for the past seven seasons.
The Milwaukee Rampage is a professional team coached by Boro Sucevic, who has led the team to back-to-back A-League Semifinal appearances in 2000 and 2001. Former Badgers Josh Provan (1996) and Brian Doherty (1998) are current members of the Rampage.
Wisconsin returns six starters from a team that finished 10-8-1 overall in 2001 and posted a 3-3 mark in the Big Ten before ending the year with a first-round loss to Michigan in the conference championship. Three of the UWs top six scorers last season were freshmen.
The Badgers are 2-0-1 in spring competition, picking up wins at North Carolina State and UNC-Wilmington and earning a tie with the Wilmington Hammerheads during spring break. Freshmen David Martinez and Nick Van Sicklen led the team with two goals apiece on the trip.
