The UW mens soccer team will enjoy a week mixed with competition, recreation and relaxation when it visits Los Angeles for spring break from March 30 to April 4.
Next week will be a great opportunity to play against some quality out-of-region teams and for us to see where we are at this point in the spring, head coach Jeff Rohrman said. In addition to the tough competition, this trip will also allow us to take advantage of many of the tourist attractions in the southern California area.
After arriving in Los Angeles on Friday night, the Badgers will get in some training on Saturday morning. The team will then tour the Newport, Huntington and Laguna Beach areas before settling down for dinner while watching the Ohio State/Georgetown NCAA mens basketball Final Four game. Following dinner, UW will return to its hotel for the second Final Four game. The area should be very exciting at this time, as local UCLA faces Florida.
Competition will begin Sunday morning when the Badgers face Cal State Fullerton at 9 a.m. After some time for lunch, Wisconsin will head back to the field for a match-up against Cal State Northridge at 1:30 p.m. Following the contest, UW members will have the rest of Sunday free for leisure.
One of the nice benefits of being able to do a trip like this is that it gives our players a chance to get to know each other a little bit better, Rohrman said. This ultimately impacts our team chemistry and unity in a very positive way.
Following a jog and stretch on Monday morning, the team will possibly get a chance to watch the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS train at 10 a.m. UW will fit its lunch sometime in between its touring of Hollywood and Sunset Strip. The Badgers will then find a place to watch the NCAA mens basketball championship game and return to their hotel when it is finished.
UW will launch back into competition on Tuesday. After grabbing lunch in Malibu in the afternoon, Wisconsin will head to Ventura, Calif. The Badgers face the Ventura County Fusion of the Premier Development League at 7 p.m. and return to their hotel upon the games end.
Wisconsins trip, however, must come to a conclusion at some point. After breakfast at the hotel, the team will depart to the airport for its 12:15 p.m. flight to Chicago, arrive in Chicago at around 6 p.m., and then take a bus back to Madison.
