After being drafted by Major League Soccer team D.C. United, in the leagues Jan. 14 SuperDraft, former Badger standout and Madison native, Nick Van Sicklen participated in the teams pre-season practices and was signed to the clubs 18-man roster earlier this month.
Nick has had a good pre-season training camp and we are pleased to offer him a spot on our senior roster, said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. We look forward to his future with our club.
Van Sicklen was also pleased to ink his name on the roster.
Im very excited, said Van Sicklen. This is more than I ever dreamed would be possible and Im really happy to get this opportunity.
In the three months since he was drafted, Van Sicklen has traveled with the United to various locales, worldwide, to compete in preseason contests. In his short time with the United, Van Sicklen commented on the move, his new team and the level of play.
Washington DC is a great town, so the move it alright, said Van Sicklen. Its been really fun and interesting to make the change to a new team and just being a professional, in general.
Van Sicklen and the DC United will take the field the clubs regular season-opener vs. MLS expansion team, Chivas USA, April 2 in Los Angeles. The game will be broadcast live on ABC.
