BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Florida Atlantic on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Kyle McCrudden (Wilmette, Ill.) netted his first career goal, and freshman Joey Tennyson (Milwaukee, Wis.) picked up his first collegiate assist in the loss.

"Once again we gave a good effort, but the quality of play is not where we need to be at this point," head coach John Trask said. "I have no problem with the effort our guys put forth this weekend, though."

• Freshman Joey Tennyson tallies first collegiate point
• Badgers host Wisconsin Soccer Classic next weekend

FAU's Lukas Simons broke a 1-1 tie in the 86th minute to give the Owls their first win of the season. The goal marked Simons' second goal of the year.

"While it looks like a disappointing weekend on the face of it, the team definitely grew again," Trask said. "That is what's most important about these first two weekends of the season."

The teams battled through a scoreless first half, during which FAU held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots.

Florida Atlantic (1-3) then took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Darnell King, his second tally of the season. King beat UW goalkeeper Ryan Vint (Plymouth, Minn.) on a breakaway, firing a shot into the right corner in the 56th minute.

McCrudden tallied the equalizer for the Badgers in the 73rd minute. FAU keeper James McCormick bobbled a cross sent in by Tennyson, and McCrudden was there to bury the rebound.

Wisconsin (1-3) received three saves from Vint as the Owls outshot the Badgers 13-10 for the game. McCormick finished with one save.

Senior Jon Rzepka (Kentwood, Mich.) picked up a yellow card in the 62nd minute. Both teams finished the game with seven fouls.

Today's game marked the conclusion of a four-game road swing for the Badgers. UW returns to action in Madison next weekend for the Wisconsin Soccer Classic. The Badgers host San Diego State in their home opener at the McClimon Complex on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Dayton and Milwaukee will also participate in the tournament.
