MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men’s soccer team finished its preseason on a high note, defeating Green Bay, 1-0, at the McClimon Complex Saturday night in the team’s final exhibition match of 2013.

An energized start from the Phoenix put the Badgers on their heels early in the game. Wisconsin responded well, though, evening the offensive pressure as the half went on. Green Bay recorded four shots in the first 45 minutes while the Badgers fired three.

 Fast Facts
• Beyers extends scoreless streak to 154:30
• Fr. Felt nets Badgers lone goal of the match
• 17 Badgers saw action in final exhibition of 2013

After a scoreless first half of play, Wisconsin pressured the Phoenix for numerous offensive chances early in the second to no avail.

At the 67-minute mark Phoenix backup goalkeeper, Dary DeWalt, replaced starting goalie, Kyle Ihn. Wisconsin quickly capitalized on the switch and netted the game’s first goal. Receiving a feed from Trevor Wheeler, freshman Skyler Felt drilled a shot from the top of the box past Green Bay’s new keeper.

The Badgers would not relinquish their one-goal lead as time ticked on. UW goalkeeper, Casey Beyers, remained a brick wall in net, fending off numerous scoring chances from the Phoenix offense late in the game.

Seventeen Badgers took the field contributing to Saturday night’s win. Casey Beyers added to his 154:30 scoreless streak in his shutout of the Phoenix.

Wisconsin opens the regular season Friday, Aug. 30 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT.
