Wisconsin men's soccer head coach John Trask completed his initial staff with the hiring of Phil Presser as an assistant coach on Feb. 23, 2010. Presser enters his first season with the Badgers in 2010.

Presser's arrival in Madison reunites him with Trask, for whom he served as an assistant at Illinois-Chicago during the 2005 season.

"Phil is one of the most outstanding young coaches in the country," Trask said. "I had the opportunity to work with Phil at UIC and know what he brings to our staff as a tremendous recruiter and someone with a tireless commitment to developing players.

"His background in the Big Ten and knowledge of the game will be of great benefit to all our present and future Badger soccer players. I look forward to welcoming Phil and his wife, Kristal, and their family to Madison."

Most recently, Presser served four seasons as an assistant coach at Indiana, his alma mater. During his stint with the Hoosiers, Presser helped guide IU to an overall record of 54-25-12 and Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships in 2006.

At Indiana, Presser coached three National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Americans and had four players sign Major League Soccer (MLS) professional contracts. With Presser's guidance in 2008, Indiana had four All-Big Ten selections, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, an NSCAA All-American and a CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American.

Two of his pupils from that squad went on to play professionally as 2009 MLS draftees.

"The opportunity to bring my family to Madison and work with outstanding coaches like John Trask and Keith Tiemeyer is very exciting," Presser said. "I'm looking forward to getting settled in with our staff and getting to work on bringing back Wisconsin's championship history."

Presser was a four-year letterwinner at Indiana from 1999 to 2002 and helped the Hoosiers win a national championship as a freshman. A three-year starting midfielder and two-time All-Big Ten selection, Presser made three trips to the College Cup with the Hoosiers and helped IU to a 70-18-3 overall record during his career.

Following his playing days, Presser served as Indiana's first-ever undergraduate assistant coach and helped the Hoosiers claim the 2003 national title.

He also enjoyed a professional playing career with the Kansas City Comets and Chicago Storm of the Major Indoor Soccer League.

A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was a high school All-American and 1998 Indiana Player of the Year at Canterbury High School, Presser graduated from IU with a bachelor's degree in management in 2003. He and his wife, Kristal, have two daughters, Ava and Mia.
