MADISON, Wis. -– The 2013-14 school year is rapidly approaching and now the Wisconsin men’s rowing program has its 2013-14 racing schedule ready for release.
The Badgers open their fall season at the Head of the Charles on Sunday, Oct. 20. It will be an intriguing three-day weekend of Wisconsin athletics in Boston as the Badger men’s hockey program is scheduled to visit Boston College and Boston University that Friday and Saturday.
Trips to the Head of the Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, and the Head of the Huron in Ann Arbor, Mich., also make up the fall racing season.
The Badgers return to the water on Saturday, April 5 for the first of two home races. They take on Michigan that day, then race Minnesota and Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, April 19.
Also on April 19, the Badgers will send a contingent of their top boats to the Stanford Invitational in Redwood Shores, Calif.
A spring trip to Boston will see UW face Boston University for the Jablonic Cup and MIT for the Cochrane Cup on May 3. The following day, the Badgers will take on Northeastern.
Championships season begins thereafter, with the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Championships (Eastern Sprints) on May 18, in Worcester, Mass.
Wisconsin will race a warm-up for the national championships in late May against an unknown foe, then the Badgers will wrap up the 2014 season with the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships from May 30-June 1.
The national championships will take place on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J., for the first time in the event’s 112-year history. The site has seen two NCAA championships, as well as five U.S. Olympic Trials, in addition to various other major regattas.
The 2013-14 schedule is tentative and subject to change.
