LONDON -- Fraternal twins Grant and Ross James led the U.S. men's 8+ to a first-place finish in heat 1 of the Olympic men's rowing eight heats at the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London on Saturday morning.
Grant and Ross, who rowed directly behind one another in seat 2 and seat 3, respectively, and the rest of the U.S. squad beat out Australia with a time of 5:30.72 to reach Wednesday's final.
Heat 1 included the U.S., Australia, Poland and Ukraine, with the James brothers and Co. edging out the Australians by a half-length. The U.S. will now move on to the finals where they will join Germany. The remainder of the field will compete in the repechage for a spot in the final on Aug. 1.
