MADISON, Wis. – The University Wisconsin is well represented at the 2012 World Rowing Under-23 Championship Trials, which began yesterday in West Windsor, N.J. Current and former members of the UW men’s, women’s and lightweight rowing teams have advanced to finals, which begin today, and are on the brink of representing the U.S. at the U23 World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania next month.
Recent UW graduate, Tim Aghai, advanced to the men’s pair finals today after winning yesterday’s trials with a time of 6:15.083. Aghai, along with Stanford’s Austin Hack, will look to qualify for the U23 World Championships after failing to make the U.S. team that will compete in the 2012 London Games in late July.
UW women’s rowers, Monica Whitehouse and Sophie Heywood, will also join Aghai, as they qualified for Wednesday’s final, finishing second in the women’s double sculls with a time of 6:57.126. Those two boats, along with lightweight pair Abby Knight and Alessandra Ruenger, will compete for spots on the U.S. team in Wednesday’s finals.
