MADISON, Wis. -- Senior forward Michael Mersch (Park Ridge, Ill.) and junior forward Brad Navin (Waupaca, Wis.) helped the Badgers to a weekend sweep over Colorado College last weekend and were recognized as the Big Ten Second and Third Stars of the Week for their efforts.
Mersch scored two goals on five shots and reached 100 career points with his goal last Friday. His goal Saturday marked his fifth consecutive game with a score and his sixth game in the last seven with a tally. The Big Ten leader with 10 goals this season, Mersch ranks seventh in the nation with a 0.71 goals-per-game scoring average. He earns his first Big Ten weekly honor.
Earning his first career weekly honor of any sort is Navin, who recorded a career-high three points in UW's 4-3 overtime victory last Saturday against Colorado College. Navin scored a goal and two assists, opening UW's goal scoring to begin UW's comeback from a 2-0 deficit. He also posted the primary assist on Tyler Barnes' overtime game-winning tally.
Michigan freshman goaltender Zach Nagelvoort was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week.
