MADISON, Wis. -- After posting a 4-1 and 6-1 sweep last weekend against New Hampshire, the Badger men's hockey team has been recognized by Collegehockeynews.com as the national "Team of the Week." The Badgers claimed their first sweep of the young season to improve to 3-2-1 on the season. In the series against UNH, the UW outshot the Wildcats by a 96-35 margin. The series also resulted in a pair of Badger defensemen - junior Brendan Smith and freshman John Ramage - earning WCHA player of the week awards. WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, Smith led the Badgers with four assists on the weekend. Ramage, who won the WCHA Rookie of the Week honor, scored two goals and an assist, while going plus-6 on the weekend. Other top performers included sophomore forward Derek Stepan and Jordy Murray, each of whom posted a two-goal game. Senior forwards Michael Davies, Ben Grotting and John Mitchell, and junior forward Sean Dolan scored their first goals of the season in the game. This week, the Badgers take on border-rival Minnesota for games Friday and Saturday at the Kohl Center. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
