UW is joined in the top-five by UMass-Lowell (No.1), Miami (No. 2), Boston College (No. 4) and North Dakota (No. 5). Minnesota, Notre Dame, Michigan, Providence, and Minnesota State round out the top-10, in that order.
The rankings feature a lot of familiar foes for the Badgers with UMass-Lowell being the most notable, as the River Hawks bounced UW from last year's NCAA Tournament in the first round. The rankings also feature two former WCHA rivals (North Dakota and Minnesota State) and two fellow Big Ten teams (Minnesota and Michigan).
With games against Miami (OH), Boston College, Minnesota and Michigan, the Badgers meet four of the top eight teams on the list. Having played UMass-Lowell, North Dakota and Minnesota State last year, the Badgers will have played seven of this year's top-10 teams in the past two years.
Wisconsin returns 21 of its 26 skaters from last year's team that went 22-13-7. The squad posted a 22-6-5 record from Nov. 30 on, and captured the 2013 WCHA playoff championship to earn an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
The season opens on Friday, Oct. 11 at the Kohl Center against Northern Michigan.
