Aug. 25, 2014

MADISON, Wis. -- With the 2014-15 Wisconsin men’s hockey season fast-approaching, UWBadgers.com probes beyond what fans will see on the ice to introduce the 11 newest members of the Badgers by shedding light on their likes, dislikes and personalities.

Next up in the series is forward Cameron Hughes.

Hughes spent the past two seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) skating for the Spruce Grove Saints. Despite being one of the league’s youngest players at the age of 17, the Edmonton, Alberta, product ranked 15th in the league with 57 points (21 goals, 36 assists) in 51 games. Hughes gathered 17 points during the playoffs, including an assist on the AJHL championship-winning overtime goal. In 2012-13 season, he notched 11 goals and 20 assists in 60 games, as the Saints reached the league finals. Last fall, Hughes was one of just five 1996-born players on the Canada-West squad that won bronze at the World Junior A Challenge. He finished the tournament second on the team in points (five).

Hughes will wear No. 19, most recently worn by All-American defenseman Jake McCabe. Other former Badgers who wore the number include Jake Gardiner, Kyle Turris, Scott Mellanby, Brian Mullen and Mike Blaisdell, among others.
