Introducing... goaltender Gabe Grunwald

Aug. 18, 2014

MADISON, Wis. -- With the 2014-15 Wisconsin men's hockey season fast-approaching, UWBadgers.com probes beyond what fans will see on the ice to introduce the 11 newest members of the Badgers by shedding light on their likes, dislikes and personalities.
Next up in the series is goalie Gabe Grunwald.

Grunwald spent the 2013-14 season playing for the New York Bobcats of the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), allowing 2.99 goals per game and saving 91.3 percent of the shots he faced. He led his team to a second place finish in the EHL Central division and was named a league all-star. Grunwald minded the nets for the Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Junior A Hockey League (OJHL) during the 2012-13 campaign. He finished with a 2.62 goals against average and .910 save percentage, leading his team to the playoffs. While with Georgetown, Grunwald was the first goalie in league history to score a goal and record a shutout in the same game.

Before heading to the OJHL, Grunwald split time with the Michigan Warriors and Kenai River Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in 2011-12. With the two squads he posted a combined save percentage of .884 and allowed 3.85 goals per game, culminating in a playoff appearance with the Brown Bears.

Grunwald will wear No. 34, making him just the fourth Badger in school history to wear the number.
