Former Badger tri-captain Rene Bourque, a free agent, signed with the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks, the organization announced today. Terms were undisclosed.
Bourque led the Badgers in scoring each of the past two seasons. After collecting 19 goals and 27 points as a junior, he capped off his career with a 16 goal, 36-point performance as a senior. The only Badger with double figures in goals the past four seasons, Bourque helped the Badgers reach the NCAA regional semifinal this past season. He scored the goal that sent the regional final against Maine to extra time, before the Black Bears won in overtime.
In his four years at the UW, Bourque collected 97 points on 57 goals and 40 assists in 153 games played.
Borque recently took part in the Blackhawks' Prospect Camp as a tryout.
The former UW player continues a recent string of Badger-Blackhawk connections. Current Badgers Adam Burish and Jake Dowell were drafted by Chicago in 2003 and 2004, respectively.
