MADISON, Wis. –- Fresh off winning the Broadmoor Trophy as WCHA playoff champions in its final season in the WCHA, Wisconsin (22-12-7) awaits word on its first-round NCAA opponent and the site of its regional assignment for the 2013 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey tournament.
The Badgers will learn their fate tonight when the NCAA selection show airs live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. CT.
Wisconsin earned the WCHA’s automatic bid to the 16-team NCAA field with a run through the WCHA playoffs, posting a first-round home sweep over Minnesota Duluth to advance to the WCHA Final Five. At the Final Five, the Badgers knocked off Minnesota State, WCHA regular-season co-champion St. Cloud State and then Colorado College in the championship game for the school’s first WCHA playoff title since 1998 and the 12th in school history.
The four regional sites for the 2013 NCAA men’s ice hockey tournament include the West Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich., and the Northeast Regional in Manchester, N.H., on Friday and Saturday, March 29-30; and the East Regional in Providence, R.I., and the Midwest Regional in Toledo, Ohio on Saturday and Sunday, March 30-31.
The 2013 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Frozen Four takes place on April 11 and 13 in Pittsburgh.
