MADISON, Wis. -- In continuing the celebration of the 50th season in the modern era of Badger hockey, the University of Wisconsin men's hockey program unveiled commemorative uniforms on Monday. They will wear the jerseys on Feb. 17, when the team faces off against Minnesota in the OfficeMax Hockey City Classic. The game takes place outdoors at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Throwing back to one of the earliest eras of the UW hockey program, the alternate uniforms are reproductions of those worn by Wisconsin's 1931-32 team, which can also be seen featured in the background on this season's team poster.

Inside the collar of the uniforms are the words, "It's a great day for hockey." Hemmed into the bottom of each is the date of the game and the teams participating, along with the logo featured outside of actual Soldier Field.

The OfficeMax Hockey City Classic  marks the third time in eight seasons that the Wisconsin hockey program will play one of its games outdoors. The Badgers defeated Ohio State, 4-2, in the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic at Lambeau Field in 2006 and beat Michigan, 3-2, at the Culver’s Camp Randall Hockey Classic in 2010.

This event features two matchups, with Notre Dame taking on Miami (Ohio) at 12 p.m. (CT), then Minnesota and Wisconsin set to follow at 3:30 p.m. (CT).

The four teams competing in the Hockey City Classic have a combined 36 Frozen Four appearances and 11 National Championship titles. Each year since 2008, at least one Hockey City Classic participant has made an appearance in the NCAA Frozen Four, including most recently: Minnesota in 2012, Notre Dame in 2011 and both Wisconsin and Miami in 2010. The Hockey City Classic will be the first outdoor game in the modern era for three of the four participants - Miami, Minnesota and Notre Dame.
