Wisconsin Postgame Quotes
No. 16 Wisconsin vs. Penn State
Kohl Center — Madison, Wis.
Mon, Feb. 25, 2013

Head Coach Mike Eaves

On where this loss ranks on the pain scale:
“I think what it does is it just squeezes the importance of our last four games. We have to primarily win out, so that’s our task at hand.”

On what happened during Penn State’s winning goal:
“We won the face off. We had a play in mind. They had a couple chances to get it out. It came to the front end. We had four guys [to their] three guys, and it hit a stick and (Landon Peterson) had to make a save. Then before we could follow, they got it in the net.  We’re going to look back at this game and say it was a game of missed opportunities. We’re going to probably look at the film and say we out-chanced them two-to-one and we didn’t score enough to put it out of the game in regulation.”

On if he was surprised by Penn State’s play:
“It doesn’t surprise us either. We look at the Huntsville-Alabama game, the game that we played we shut them out the first day, so we knew, the boys knew. It was missed opportunities that were in the end our downfall.”

On if knows what the status of Derek Lee’s injury that came in the first period is:
“No. I haven’t talked to the doctor yet. I’ll get in there, and I think they’ll probably have to see how it is tomorrow and then let us know.”

On how he would assess Landon Peterson’s play during the game:
“For the most part, I thought it was pretty good. The first (goal) hits Eddie Wittchow’s glove, changes direction and goes in. On the second (goal), he took a chance to try to poke check it and got beat there.”

Wisconsin Players

Landon Peterson on where this game ranks on a pain meter for team:
“It’s a tough loss for us. The guys played well, had a lot of shots. We didn’t score and unfortunately they did. We have to tip our hat to their goalie, he played well. He definitely deserved that win.”

Jake McCabe on when you start rebuilding from the loss:
“What can you do about it. It happened. We’ve got to go back to work. We have to win out here. It’s obviously a painful loss, but we’ll start rebuilding right now and come back to work on Wednesday.”

Mark Zengerle on where things went wrong during the end of the game:
“We had plenty of chances to kind of get that cushion to put them away. Like (Landon Peterson) said, the goalie played pretty well, but at the same time, we have to finish our opportunities.”

Peterson on what happened during Penn State’s first two goals:
“The first one was a shot and hit off our defensemen’s glove and I lost it. The second one, I was trying to clear the puck, get a poke check, and their guy beat me there and went five hole.”

Zengerle on if this is a devastating loss and if there is a lot of momentum lost:
“I wouldn’t say momentum has been lost, but yeah it’s devastating. Especially after what happened around college hockey after last night. Like Jake (McCabe) said, we can’t do anything about it now. We still control our fate as far as getting home ice and going from there.”
