MADISON, Wis. -- Badger head coach Michael Burcin reviewed the fall season and talked about the opening of the new golf training center in a video released today.
Burcin mentioned the team has had seven top-10 finishes since the fall of 2011, including three this past fall. He also touted the work of sophomore Thomas O'Bryan, who led the Badgers in the final tournament at Kiawah Island hitting a career 54-hole best 219.
The senior leadership of Chris Meyer and Thomas Welk also brought praise from Burcin. Meyer led the Badgers in the first two tournaments of the fall season. At the Wolf Run Intercollegiate he tied for 23rd with an 8-over par 73-73-75--221. At the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate he tied for 10th with an 8-over par 76-74-71--221. Meyer leads the team in scoring average with 74.45 per round.
This is a big week for the University of Wisconsin golf teams as they open the new golf training center at University Ridge. The $2.8 million multi-level 11,600-square foot facility will house both the men's and women's teams for practice, team and locker areas.
The facility dedication is Friday, Nov. 16.
The Badgers placed seventh at the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic with a 50-over par 296-291-315--902.
After the five tournaments of the fall season, UW’s best finish came at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, where it placed fifth out of 15 teams with a 50-over par 308-299-295--902. UW had three top-10 finishes for the second-straight fall and seven top-10s since 20011. The team's 302.36 fall stroke average is ahead of last year's final 304.30.
Sophomore Thomas O’Bryan recorded his career best 54-hole score with a 6-over 76-70-73--219 at the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic. O’Bryan also led UW at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic, tying for 27th with an 11-over 76-77-71--224. He is the only Badger to play all 14 rounds this fall.
